Recovery & Religion

Religion and recovery. Two words that can be extremely controversial and emotional. I hear so many say that religious people are the most judgmental. Most won’t even step foot in church because of the judgment and conviction they feel soon as they do. Please remember this: Are we not doing the exact same thing back?

Segregating yourself from

religious people because they judge you is the exact same judgmental we are hurt by. If followed correctly, Christianity can be a beautiful path to God. I don’t label myself religious, but I love the company of true Christians.

Sobriety is the ultimate goal. Having God in your life for your recovery should be another goal. God did not create Religion, man did. God does not require you to be religious. All he wants is for you to know how much he loves you. To find this peace, practice the presence of God daily. Include him in your recovery and daily routines.

Having sobriety in your life is the most beautiful and spiritual experience. Putting God or a higher power in your life is also peaceful and warm. Can you have one without the other? Yes, but peanut butter really compliments jelly and vice-versa. First, learn to separate man from religion. It’s not religion that has harmed you. It’s the corrupt, disgusting, and hypocritical spiritual leaders that have pushed you away. Religion doesn’t call you a piece of $#!+ for sinning.

Religion says if you sin, you must be sad or hurt, and how can we help? Substance abuse and abortions are terrible and have traumatic impacts on those who suffer through it. A true Christian will pray for you without judgment and ask how to help. After you separate man from religion, separate God from religion.

Religion was created by man. Yes, it is a beautiful way to find yourself, to find God and Sobriety. But religion is not the only path to God. Just like the 12 step program is not the only path to Sobriety. I hope this helps. I love you all, and good luck in your recovery ad se!
